SamanĂ¡ Remembered
As I looked at this photograph just after I had just come home from SamanĂ¡, I felt the patches of light in the foreground gave this work party a religious feeling. In fact, they were preparing a floor for the new church. Cito's figure, digging into the earth, had mystery. He was working alone, but I felt he was related to the other people. I was being affected by the opposites of reality — dark and light, center and circumference, separate and together.

The people are arranged in a semicircle, beginning with the spade (and hidden person) at the left and continuing around to the boy at the right. Cito, who is by himself, is still part of the circle through being at the center. He has a relation to other people, that I had also, as I took this photograph.
